Leading Georgian figure, now reprinted chiefly in anthologies of war poetry: he was invalided home after the Somme. Even in his earlier years his ambitions lay in the theatre, as these fragments of verse drama testify. He refused to deny the rumour, current among younger Oxford poets, that he had been sent down from the University for throwing a mangel-wurzel at Lloyd George.
